Who We Are

Mission Statement

The Rick and Sally Meyers Animal Shelter/Adams County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is an IRC 501 c-3 non-profit organization that will provide shelter and care for lost, abandoned and abused animals, investigate and prosecute cruelty offenders, help control animal overpopulation and educate the community about spay/neuter programs, animal wellness and safety.

Serving Adams County since April 30,1976, the The Rick and Sally Meyers Animal Shelter/Adams County SPCA provides vital services to animals and people alike through sheltering and adopting animals, investigating animal cruelty and neglect, and rescuing animals in emergency situations.

The Rick and Sally Meyers Animal Shelter/Adams County SPCA is a private nonprofit organization that receives only approximately 8% of its annual operating budget of $500,000 from the county and municipalities combined! We do fundraising, memberships, apply for grants and receive some bequests, but we continue to struggle to support the very important task of caring for the many animals that come through our doors. For the past couple of years, too many animals have become displaced orphans; a tragedy of these harsh economic times. We take in approximately 3000 animals per year and each year that number increases.

ADAMS COUNTY SPCA ANNOUNCES
NAME CHANGE

Rick Meyers presenting his donation to ACSPCA Board President,
Katie Carroll at the Dinner Gala.

At its annual Gala held on November 13th at the Inn of 1863, the Adams County SPCA announced a change in the name of its Goldenville Road shelter to the "The Rick and Sally Meyers Animal Shelter." The announcement was made by Board member Christy Settle who told the Gala guests that the name change was a fitting tribute to honor Sally Meyers, a longtime member of the Board of Directors who passed away last January. Ms. Settle noted that Sally had raised her family of 3 children and opened her home to 19 foster children. Sally then turned her considerable energies to animal welfare and joined the ACSPCA board in 2005. She worked tirelessly to increase fundraising through grant writing and was the catalyst behind the acquisition of the Spay Neuter Trailer. In Sally's memory, her husband, Rick Meyers, made a donation to the ACSPCA to fund an annual spay neuter clinic and a donation to the shelter for the name change. The Meyers family requested that the name include both Rick and Sally as Rick Meyers also serves on the ACSPCA Board of Board of Directors and assists in its fund raising activities.
